Feast of the Meeting of Our Lord in the Temple

This weekend the Cathedral celebrates the Meeting of Our Lord in the Temple, forty days after the Nativity. Great Vespers is Saturday evening, February 1st. Divine Liturgy is Sunday morning, February 2nd. Candles will be blessed at the Liturgy. Bring candles to be blessed and take them home; they are used throughout the year at times of prayer, illness, and difficulty. The feast commemorates the righteous Simeon, who had been promised he would not die before seeing the Messiah, taking the infant Christ in his arms in the Temple and singing what became the Church's evening prayer: "Lord, now let your servant depart in peace." After decades of waiting, he saw what he was promised. Plan to be there.
