In the Orthodox Church, burial of the dead is an act of love and theology. We bury our own, in consecrated ground, with full rites, because we believe in the resurrection of the body and the life of the world to come. The grave is not the end; it is a resting place for the body until Christ calls all things to himself.
Graceland Memorial Park is our active cemetery, where plots are available for parishioners and their families. The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery and New York Bayview Cemetery are both nineteenth-century sites: historic grounds that hold the graves of the families who built this parish and this city.

The Rite of Burial
The Church provides full burial rites for all parishioners: the initial Parastas/Panikhida, funeral service, graveside prayers, and ongoing memorial services as requested, along with commemoration at the Divine Liturgy. Contact the rector to discuss arrangements.
Graceland Memorial Park has served as the active burial ground of Saints Peter & Paul for over sixty years. In 1960, the parish secured this cemetery to ensure that Orthodox Christians in the Jersey City community would have a dignified, consecrated place to bury their faithful departed in accordance with the Church's rites.
Parish plots are available for registered parishioners and their immediate families. Arrangements for burial, plot purchase, and memorial services are coordinated through the parish office. The cemetery is maintained by the Cathedral.

The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery is one of the most significant burial grounds in New Jersey, a remarkable nineteenth-century survivor that holds the graves of some of Jersey City's earliest immigrant communities, including many of the families who founded this very parish.
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, this cemetery is both a living memorial and a historic landmark. Saints Peter & Paul maintains its connection to this site as part of its stewardship of the community's history and the memory of those who built the Cathedral with their hands and their sacrifice.

New York Bayview Cemetery is a beautiful nineteenth-century garden-style burial ground in Jersey City, near the waters of New York Bay, a setting that gives the cemetery its name.
The parish maintains its connection to this site as part of its stewardship of the memory of those who built this community. Grave blessings take place in Bright Week. Parish has no part in the purchase of any remaining plots.

Meet with the Rector
Rev. Solomon Longo will meet with the family to discuss the funeral rites. All parishioners in good standing are entitled to full Orthodox burial rites.
Plot Selection & Preparation
The parish administrator will assist with plot selection at Graceland Memorial Park. Available plots are allocated to registered parishioners and their immediate family members on a first-come basis.
Burial & Ongoing Commemoration
Following burial, the departed are commemorated at the Divine Liturgy on Saturdays of the Souls and at Radonitsa (celebrated during Bright Week). Families may request individual Parastas services at any time throughout the year.
