A solo recital, and so far the only evening in the series with one player on stage for the whole program. Gleb Ivanov built it around the romantic repertoire and closed with Mussorgsky.

Pictures at an Exhibition is a set of ten pieces written after a memorial showing of a friend's paintings and drawings. A Promenade returns between them, standing for the composer walking from one picture to the next, and it changes character each time as what he has just looked at stays with him. The last picture is the Great Gate of Kiev, a design for a gate that was never built.

After the music

A reception dinner followed in the parish hall, included in the price of the ticket. That has been the shape of every concert in the series: the musicians stay, and the conversation runs long.

Gleb Ivanov, piano

Artistic Director of the Concert Series

Gleb Ivanov directs the cathedral concert series and has played across the United States and Europe since coming to America from the Moscow Conservatory. He won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2005, and worked for several years under the mentorship of Mstislav Rostropovich.
