Opening Night
Schubert, Beethoven, and Brahms
Cathedral Concert Series
The first concert of the Saints Peter & Paul Concert Series
Concert · June 30, 2024 · 7:00 PM
Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Cathedral, 109 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302
$65
The series opened on a Sunday evening in June 2024, the first time the Cathedral and the Blüthner School of Music in Hoboken shared a bill. Gleb Ivanov played the Schubert and the Beethoven alone, then four string players joined him after the interval for the Brahms.
The Waldstein and the Brahms Quintet are both large works, and the nave took them well. The room was built for singing, and it holds a piano the same way.
After the music
A reception dinner followed in the parish hall, included in the price of the ticket. That has been the shape of every concert in the series: the musicians stay, and the conversation runs long.
