Between Echoes and Silence

Entre les Échos et le Silence

Cathedral Concert Series

An evening of Rachmaninoff for cello and piano

Concert · August 23, 2026 · 6:00 PM

Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Cathedral, 109 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302

$65 Tickets

Rachmaninoff wrote for the voice even when no one was singing. The Vocalise has no words at all, and the Cello Sonata spends most of its length letting two instruments finish each other's sentences. It is music that belongs in a room built for chant.

Gleb Ivanov, who directs our concert series, is joined by the cellist Sandro Sidamonidze for the whole program. The cathedral seats fill quickly for these evenings, so we encourage buying ahead.

After the music

Dinner follows the performance in the parish hall, and it is included in the price of the ticket. This is the part of the evening we look forward to most: the musicians stay, and the conversation runs long.

If you have never been inside the cathedral, a concert is an easy way to see it. Come early and look at the icons before the music starts.
